Underrated Autumn Adventures

While the falling temperatures and gray days may seem to be perfect weather to stay inside, there are actually many outdoor activities that are best enjoyed in the cool, laid-back atmosphere of the fall season.

1) Hiking

Many people would agree that hiking in hot weather is not enjoyable; however, the true merits of hiking in fall often get overshadowed by the threat of having to put on a coat. Taking a hike in the autumn is not only more rewarding due to the shifting foliage but is also–in many places in the world–free of the bugs that would haunt hikers in any other fair-weather season.

2) Hammocking

Hammocks, in general, provide the ultimate comfortable outdoor experience: all the relaxation and fresh air you can breathe while you slowly drift off to sleep. This popular summer activity has even more merits later in the year, such as the lower chance of overheating and the opportunity to curl up under a blanket with a good book and rock yourself to sleep.

3) Stargazing

It may just be the effect of the cool, clear air on my senses, but I personally have always felt as if the stars and sky in general are unfathomably more beautiful in cooler months, particularly the fall. To me, there is nothing in the world more freeing than sitting on a blanket beneath a sky full of stars and listening to the world fall asleep. Overall, even though I can’t deny that the fall weather sometimes makes me want to stay inside all day, it is ideal to get in touch with your peaceful side, whether on a long hike in the woods or cozied up in a hammock.
