The cult favorite anthology series, American Horror Story, has recently premiered its eighth season: ‘Apocalypse.’ The season is a crossover between their ‘Murder House’ and ‘Coven’ seasons.

Spoilers for the episodes “The End” and “The Morning After” follow.

The first episode presents itself like most horror programs, normal with an eerie feeling that something is to come–and it does. The episode illustrates a modern day world that has been thrown into chaos. Nuclear attacks tear through several parts of the world, leaving only a few survivors, who were sent to Outposts, facilities made by a group called “The Cooperative.”

Believed to have a superior genetic makeup that has allowed them to survive the attacks, the survivors are kept in the Outposts, waiting for Cooperative director Michael Langdon to decide their individual fates. The second episode continues to set up this gripping tale. As expected, Langdon reveals himself to the survivors, and throughout the episode we see the introduction of a Murder House character, strange relationships blossoming, and secrets that won’t remain secret for long.

If these episodes are any indication, the show’s creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck have continued to maintain the show’s excitement. With a dash a horror, a sprinkle of realism, and pinch of drama the hit series continue to draw fans in.
