Review: Powerglide

Sometimes when I study, I like to put on music I have never heard before as a form of white noise in the background to help me concentrate. I usually end up tuning out the song completely, but I like to keep the music on so it’s not completely quiet.

On one of those days, I queued up a few songs and started focusing on my homework. However, before I knew it, the song “Powerglide” by Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee, and Juicy J came on and I was hooked by the first chorus. From my very first listen, I found the song absolutely outstanding from anything I had heard recently.

With a tune so catchy that it broke me out of my dazed efforts to finish homework, “Powerglide” is truly a masterpiece of a song. The carefree lyrics and captivating beat are perfect for jamming out in the car. Its irresistible beat makes it the perfect pick-me-up song, ideal for any occasion from bad days to late nights to sleepy mornings. Even now, months after discovering “Powerglide,” I find it completely impossible to listen to the song without dancing.

According to Rae Sremmurd, “Powerglide” is about the feeling you get when it seems like you’re “floating or flying.” After coming a long way from poverty due to their hit singles, brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi are now able to afford luxury items, such as Gucci brand clothing and Lamborghinis.

An instant classic, this song romanticizes the idea of living the fast life and being present in the moment, “Powerglide” is a celebration and ode to their recent success.
