Halloween + Baking = Yes Please

Halloween is always a fun time, and the pandemic can’t change that. True, we can’t have parties like we used to, but we can still enjoy the spooky season with movie nights, costumes, pumpkin carving, and lots of candy. If you’re feeling even more ambitious and filled with the spooky spirit, why not try some of these Halloween-themed baking endeavors?

  1. Sugar cookies! These are always a crowd pleaser, and they are honestly super easy. Find a simple recipe, have some fun carving spooky shapes, stick ‘em in the oven, and then decorate to your heart’s content! Who wouldn’t want to munch on some pumpkins or skeletons or bats or witches or whatever while watching a scary movie?

2. Pie. There are so many different pie flavors and so many fun things you can do with them. If you’re motivated enough, the top layer of dough on your pie can be carved into any shape you want—a skeleton, a pentagram, a pumpkin, a ghost. Go for it.

3. Cake. Another classic, but it’s pretty obvious. There is almost nothing you can’t do with a cake, so why not enjoy yourself while baking a yummy cake and decorating it to look like whatever you want? Carve a skeleton head! Round out a pumpkin! Make some cake pop bats! Add more sprinkles than necessary! Eat the whole thing in one sitting!

Baking is such a great opportunity for creativity. You can make almost anything (as long as you follow the recipe) and tailor it to whatever event/holiday/craving you want. Since we can’t go trick-or-treating or attend costume parties, you might as well try something new and have some fun with your baking. For those of you with family/friends in the house, I guarantee they will appreciate the effort.
