Friendship from Afar

Social distancing can make it difficult to maintain friendships, but it doesn’t have to be this way. It just takes a bit more effort on both ends and with the help of technology, this can be done easily. There are many platforms that we can use to stay connected and do fun things with friends, while social distancing!

I have recently discovered a way to watch any movie or show on Netflix simultaneously. All you need to do is install an extension called Netflix Party. Once you do that, you just click the extension, select something to watch, and send the link to your friends! There is also a chat feature that lets you talk to each other. It makes it even more fun because you’re able to talk to one another without being distracted from the movie/show. If you want even more interaction, you can get on FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype at the same time!

Do you all remember being in middle school and having pen pals across the country? Well, there’s an app that I discovered that allows you to do thisbut virtually! It’s called Slowly, and it takes the same amount of time to send as it would if you mailed it. You can send virtual letters to your friends or you can even meet new people around the world with similar interests. When making your profile, you’re asked about things you enjoy talking about and they match you with people who share these same interests. This is such a fun way to keep in contact with friends and make new ones!
