Appreciating Family

Happy Thanksgiving! I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited to eat some pumpkin pie! I hope you all enjoy the holiday, however you celebrate it.

This year, I’m especially thankful to be celebrating with my family. I was with them last year, too, of course, but it wasn’t the same. Last year, I’d spent months and months in the same house with the same people with no end in sight, so it just felt like a regular Thursday.

Now, I’ve been away at school for a few months. I’ve gotten used to my pre-pandemic routine, which, sadly, means not seeing my family as much. That’s why I’m so thankful I’ll be able to spend some time with them this week. Whether it’s enjoying the drive home with my brother, watching movies with my parents, talking with my sister, or even just cuddling with my pets, I’m looking forward to a week full of family.

I know I’m lucky and not everyone will be able to spend this holiday with the people they love. If you won’t be able to physically be with the ones you love, I suggest you take some time to appreciate them. Reflect on how you’ve helped each other grow and what each person means to you. See if there are any ways you can show them your gratitude—maybe send them a gift or a hand-written note, or invite them for a cup of coffee.

Happy holidays!
