Thanks Extends Beyond Thanksgiving

Happy late Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is all about spending time with your loved ones and appreciating all of the good in your life. Everyone has different things to be grateful for, and Thanksgiving is meant to remind us of that. But, Thanksgiving shouldn’t be the only day of the year that we are grateful for what we have. Being mindful and appreciative of what makes us happy and keeps us going can be beneficial to your daily mindset and lifestyle. Reminding yourself of what you have, rather than what you’re lacking, leads to a positive mindset and can improve your life.

Being grateful doesn’t always come naturally. It’s definitely easier at times to have a “never enough” attitude—the attitude of always wanting more and never being satisfied with what you have. That’s why Thanksgiving is important and why you should practice the feeling of gratitude more often if you find yourself constantly thinking about what is absent in your life. This feeling is normal but can become harmful to your mental health and the ways in which you live your life if it’s never-ending.

If you had a hard time finding things to be grateful for this year, here are some ways that you can practice being thankful, even when you’re feeling down:

1. Helping other people

Paying for that stranger’s drink behind you at Starbucks might not seem like a big deal, but it can turn someone’s day around. Sometimes, the best way to feel grateful is to help others!

2. Do something that makes you appreciate life every day

It can be big or small, but this action can change your mindset for the better in the long run.

3. Meditate

If you like to meditate, there are plenty of gratitude meditations out there that can really make you feel at peace with yourself and your life.

4. Get rid of the perfection mindset

No matter how amazing your life is, life can never be perfect. Accepting that simple fact can help you see the good in the worst of times.
