Thanksgiving is one of the American favorites in terms of holidays and traditions. It’s a day to be thankful and to show gratitude to family and friends. Thanksgiving is celebrated with a large feast shared amongst family and friends. Each family puts their own twist on the Thanksgiving dinner table. But, the one thing that each family has in common is the big turkey passed around the table.

Have you ever wondered about the history behind the turkey on Thanksgiving day? I recently learned the natural history behind the big bird. On the first Thanksgiving, it is reported that turkey was not on the dinner table. However, after Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday in 1863, the turkey, too, was declared the meat to eat on this day. The turkey was perfect, as it was larger than any other bird. Due to its size, it could be easily shared amongst family members, feeding everyone to satiety. Moreover, turkeys were not a common food to eat, so it was special.

Thanksgiving is a time when each person can give thanks to important figures in their lives. By sharing this large turkey with those you love, you create stronger and more meaningful bonds. After all, love is about connection, sharing, and comfort.
