Appreciating Food from Different Cultures

One of the things that I love the most about Los Angeles is that it’s a melting pot of different cultures, especially when it comes to food. There are so many amazing restaurants that serve authentic foods from a variety of cultures. These are some of my favorite things to eat on any given day in LA.

1. Vietnamese Spring Rolls

One of my favorite Vietnamese foods is spring rolls. My parents lived in Vietnam in their childhood, so we eat Vietnamese food at least once a week, but I can never get enough of spring rolls. There’s just something about the fresh vegetables, delectable shrimp, and creamy peanut sauce that makes it such an addicting and pleasurable experience, especially in the summer.

2. Mexican Street Tacos

LA is synonymous with delicious Mexican food. My all-time favorite is tacos—the portion makes it easy to have a variety, so you can try different flavors all at once. I’m a big fan of fish and shrimp tacos.

3. Salvadorian Pupusas

I first tried Salvadorian pupusas at a local farmers market, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked! The melted cheese and savory meat combo is perfect when combined with pickled cabbage.

4. Korean Tofu Soup

One of my ultimate comfort foods is Korean tofu soup, especially on a cold and gloomy day. There’s just something about the spiciness of the soup and the tenderness of the tofu that tastes perfect when eaten with a bowl of warm rice.

5. Hong Kong Style Pineapple Buns

My grandparents lived in Canton, China in their youth, and one of the most famous breakfast items eaten in Cantonese culture is pineapple buns. The crispy and sweet pineapple crust sits on top of the soft and warm bread, making the texture extremely interesting and pleasing. There are many bakeries in the Los Angeles area that still make this delectable pastry.
