Time has zipped by and the end of the school year is among us. But before we throw our textbooks and papers in the air, we must prep for the most stressful time of the year: finals.

Unless you’re some superhuman, you probably fell behind in one or five classes this semester, and are starting to feel the pressure creep up. Don’t panic: it isn’t too late to catch up and make this finals season a successful one!

Start with a clean space. Attempting to get things done in an environment where you cannot find anything is a recipe for disaster. So pick up your clothes, clean up the clutter, and prepare your area for success.

After you are at peace with your environment, craft a “To Do” list and timeline for an organized and simple way to keep track of what you still need to do. This way, you won’t forget any little or big assignments and will stay on track to getting everything done in a timely manner. Plan ahead and try not to procrastinate!

Finally, you can start studying. Everyone studies to retain information in their own way, so find what works for you. At the same time, it should be noted that some study tips that work for almost everyone. Here are just a couple:

  1. Space it out. Try not to cram learning material, and you will retain the information better and for a longer time.
  2. Quiz yourself. Make a Quizlet or write it out to guarantee you are truly learning and retaining the information you have studied.
  3. Take a break and treat yourself. Once you feel yourself dozing off and not being able to take in any more information, get up and do something you like. There’s no point in trying to study when you are have taken in as much information as you can. Go on and treat yourself to an hour or two of down time! As long as you remember to get back to studying right after, you should be fine.
