Taking the Scary out of Online Classes

As we are preparing for the reality that this coming school year will most likely begin with online instruction, it’s important to start preparing yourself for remote learning. Online school is drastically different from how school normally is, and it can be very difficult to adjust to the new learning environment.

Personally, I find that it’s hard to stay focused when classes are all through a screen, but I try to reserve some time for myself to take breaks when I can. Because you don’t have to go anywhere for class, it’s easy to grab a quick snack or go for a walk in your neighborhood in between classes. This is a great way to refresh yourself and not stay cooped up in your study spot the whole entire day!

When it comes to schoolwork, I have been taking notes and doing all of my assignments online as opposed to taking notes by hand. I find that it’s much easier to keep everything organized and you can pull things up for reference very quickly if you need them.

Lastly, we all miss being with our friends and classmates, but you can still find ways to keep these relationships going. I’ve had group Zoom study sessions and they’re super helpful for not just studying purposes but also to maintain a level of social interaction during this time of physical distancing.

Just because we are not on campus does not mean that your social life or grades have to suffer. These are just some tips among many to stay connected with friends and to maintain motivation and a balanced life to get you through online classes!
