Taking an Alternate Route

I love to make plans. Looking forward and attempting to anticipate is one of my favorite pastimes and greatest comforts. The sense of accomplishment I feel when following a process I created is one of the strongest driving forces in my life, with the final achievement of my goal being the exhilarating cherry on top. I have followed this pattern for years, a cycle of planning, enacting, reformulating when necessary, then starting over.

Today, I sat at my desk with my emails, lists and pen ready, and contemplated the upcoming decisions I needed to make. However, I was surprised to realize that for once, what excited me the most about this upcoming year was not the clear plans I had set up for myself, but the opportunities I have from changing my plan. For the first time in forever, what I most look forward to is not my lovingly planned route, but the opportunities for growth I have in the gaps and spaces of my unforeseen life.

As I transition into this next year, I see myself taking an alternate route, and I am happy to know that this path will bring me closer to my destination than I could have realized before. My wish for you, my friend, is that you too can find both comfort and excitement in embracing the unknown.
