Starting Your Morning Right

I don’t know about you, but I hate mornings. I would love to sleep in if I could, but alas, responsibility gets in the way. With school, work, and health, it’s important to start my day right to be productive and motivated throughout the day. There is nothing worse than waking up on the wrong side of the bed and forcing myself through the day without energy or joy. Here are a few things I do to make sure each day begins well:

  1. I usually have an alarm set every morning, but sometimes I wake up before it goes off. Occasionally I can fall back asleep, especially if there are only ten to twenty minutes left, but other times it’s easier to get up and start the day. I’d only be wasting time lying in bed if I can’t sleep, so I feel more productive by getting that extra half-hour to an hour to accomplish my tasks.
  2. I used to scroll through my phone or slowly prepare breakfast and get ready for the day, but that took forever. Now I try to immediately brush my teeth, wash my face, and get dressed as soon as I get out of bed. That way, I feel more awake and ready to tackle the day as I make my breakfast and take stock of the day’s requirements.
  3. Lastly, if my schedule allows, I try to work out in the morning. I’m the type of person who prefers exercising in the morning because otherwise, I’ll lose my motivation as the day progresses. By getting a workout in early, I feel more awake and ready. Plus, I feel like I’ve earned whatever treat or relaxation that comes later in the day.

If you’re also not a morning person, think about your morning routine. It could be that you hate mornings simply because you don’t have a healthy, satisfying routine. Of course, it could also be that that’s just who you are, which is totally fine. Whatever the case, I encourage you to experiment with your morning routine to see what works best for you.
