New Girl

I decided to watch New Girl a few months ago, after it was recommended to me by several of my friends. Apart from Friends, I’ve never gotten into any other comedy TV shows or movies, so I was a little apprehensive to start watching it. However,  after I started the first season, New Girl became one of my favorite TV shows.

The show focuses on four roommates: Jess, Nick, Schmidt, and Winston. Episode one begins with Jess moving into the apartment after breaking up with her boyfriend of six years. Although New Girl is a comedy, the show focuses on difficult topics, like the effects of having absent or dead parents, getting laid off from jobs, and the struggles of being in a relationship. It is nice for the audience to see how each character experiences and response to changes that occur in their life. Seeing the characters grow and develop is always been my favorite part of watching TV shows. For instance, Nick starts as a bartender who dropped out of law school and has no real goals in his life. By the end of season 7, he has written a successful book, is co-owner of the bar he previously worked at, and eventually gets married and has kids. Schmidt started the first season as a man who cared only about work and moving up in social status. However, he ends up becoming a stay home dad who realizes that there are more important things in life than just his job.

Overall, New Girl is a hilarious comedy TV show that I recommend everyone watch. Since each character is so different from one another, they all have their own flavor of comedy (for instance, Nick is sarcastic and sardonic while Winston is considered “the lovable goof”). If you are looking for a new TV show to binge-watch, try New Girl!
