Holiday Activities and Safety

Happy holidays! A pandemic can’t stop us from enjoying the holiday season safely. If you’re traveling or going out in public, wear a mask, stay six feet apart, and wash your hands! If you’ve got some friends in the area you can socialize with while socially distant, here’s a few ideas to get in that holiday spirit:

  1. Secret Santa! It requires minimal contact and it’s easy to do if you’re in the same area as other people, or even if you want to do it with people around the world. Find a way to select names (meet up and draw from a hat, find an online generator, or have an impartial party assign them), and then set up an exchange party/send out your gifts. The element of mystery always adds some fun to the giving season.
  2. Virtual game nights! There are plenty of games you can play online; you can even join one by conference call through Zoom or Discord or some other app. I have had many Among Us nights with my friends, and being able to talk to them in real time instead of through the chat is so much more enjoyable.
  3. Virtual cooking parties! Whether you want to make cookies, cakes, latkes, peppermint bark, gourmet hot chocolate, or anything else your heart desires, it’s easy enough to join a Zoom call with your friends and family and follow the recipe together. You can even compare your finished creations for a little healthy competition.

I know we would all rather be celebrating the holiday season without worry, but there are still plenty of options available to you to enjoy this time. Maintaining relationships with friends and family is so important right now, so make sure you put in the effort. I promise, it is worth it in the end.
