With our own space, whether it be our bedroom or a bigger space, we want to make it homey, comfortable, but sometimes also luxe. However, it’s also nice to be able to save money when trying to design your living space. Here are some ways that might help you opt for the cheaper furniture and decorations while still managing to make your home look expensive and trendy.

  • Adding textured/wool blankets to your living room/bedroom.
    • Oftentimes it can be easy to forget to add dimension to a space. While they might not be the coziest blankets, they will add more texture to your couch, chair, or bed and make it look like you tried more than you did. Ikea has really nice and well-priced wool blankets if you’re looking for a more affordable option.
  • DIYing simple furniture.
    • Like I mentioned above, Ikea has some great affordable furniture options. However, because they’re so basic and popular, some people might be able to tell where you got your furniture from when they enter your home. A great way to upcycle a piece of simple furniture is by using contact paper. You can add fun colors and patterns to your drawers, bookshelves, or tables by going to your local Target or ordering from Amazon.
  • Adding small decorations here and there.
    • A great way to tie colors into a room is by adding small decorations, one of them being coffee table books. These are perfect for not only style but entertainment as well. It adds your interests to the space, making it more personal and homey, and it looks very sophisticated and put together. Another great way to give these books purpose if you know you won’t end up reading them is to get boxes that look like books. That way, they can serve as storage space and make your room look less cluttered.
  • Making sure your rug fits your space.
    • Having a rug that is too small can ruin a room, making it look smaller than it is. It’s really important to measure out the room before getting rugs. Ideally, you’d want all the furniture in the space to be able to touch the rug. Websites such as Wayfair or stores like Homegoods and Ikea have affordable rugs that are cute.

Interior design can be tricky, but it’s never impossible, and there’s always more to learn about it. I hope this article led you in the right direction and inspired you or someone else to decorate their home.
