De-stressing Your Schedule

As the fall season approaches, so does the chaos of closing out first semester. Being a full time student while also juggling a job and personal life can become extremely overwhelming. Fortunately for you, I have mastered the art of organization and relieving stress–here a just a couple of ways to stay productive this fall semester.

1. Manage Your Time

The first and most important key to accomplishing anything in life is time management. Time management entails extreme self discipline, another skill you’ll need to become successful at “adulting.” When managing your time you should not only reserve parts of your schedule for work, but also carve out the occasional “me time.” It’s crucial to treat yourself to relaxation every once in a while, or your body will really begin to feel the effects of stress overload.

2. Keep a Planner

The perfect place to arrange your time is in a planner. My planner is basically attached to my hip, so I found it absolutely necessary to buy a cute one with lots of organizational tabs. Color coding your planner is another amazing way to stay on top of things. Each color should represent a different class or occupation—that way it’s clear what you have to do and when.

3. Take Care of Yourself

Probably the most important solution to disorganization is self care. I know that when I come home from a long week and my room is dirty or my workplace is sloppy, my immediate response is to stress out about it. All of that unnecessary stress can easily be relieved if you remember to keep your personal spaces clean whenever you have the time. It may not seem like a lot, but having one less thing to do can really clear up your schedule.

Fall should be a time enjoyed with family and friends–not spent staring at your overdue homework. With these simple but satisfying organizational skills in hand, you’ll be jumping straight into second semester like a pro!
