While recently strolling through downtown San Luis Obispo I discovered a little boutique called Marine Layer that was overflowing with simple yet chic clothing. The workers were welcoming and the store was decorated with adorable mannequins and an exposed brick wall.
The best thing about Marine Layer was how incredibly soft every single piece of clothing was. The calm, mauve, earth tones that the whole store embodied brought an inviting sense to the customer. The sleek sweaters, shirts and dresses found a way to look both cozy yet sophisticated, which is a very popular trend in my wardrobe as well as among the millennial generation.
After learning a bit more about this store, I found out that Marine Layer has around 45 different locations across the United States. This company offers both men and women’s clothing and is now entering the activewear market as well.
The company’s slogan, “You give us old tees. We give them a new life,” describes their practice of creating clothing that benefits the environment as well as the customer. They make it easy for anyone to donate old t-shirts, and they vow to re-spin them into the new clothing they produce. Not only do they achieve this profound level of comfort through the old donated t-shirts, but during that process they incorporate recycled plastic bottles in the fibers to create their recycled yarn.
No matter where you live, I highly recommend visiting the nearest Marine Layer to you because this adorable, cozy, eco-friendly boutique is a must visit!
