Scrolling through Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram, you may have noticed the resurgence of bleached eyebrows. From bleach blonde hair like Kim Kardashian, to metallic nails like Hailey Bieber, influencers and celebrities are tempting their followers to experiment with a new look. Because of the dramatic change they make to a face, bleached eyebrows are a surefire way to transform.

The bleached brow had its first moment in the 1990s, as an expressive statement for punk fashion. Today, it still delivers that same sleek, futuristic, edgy look. Like many beauty trends, brow trends are cyclical. From the big fluffy brow to thin pencil brows, it’s evident these trends always come back around.

Celebrities like Halsey, Lizzo, Kim Kardasian, and Julia Fox have all sported the browless look. Actress, Lily James, is no stranger to transforming her face. When she became Pamela Anderson for her role in, “Pam & Tommy,” she wore sleek pencil brows and prosthetic makeup. In Versace’s Fall/Winter 2022 campaign, James wore a dark lip, bleached brows, and black hair. Bleached brows can give a face that dramatic edge. A transformation like that can be an empowering change.

Even though the bleached brow has been around since the 1990s, the look still makes headlines and grabs attention. When Kendall Jenner and Maisie Williams wore bleached brows on the Met Gala steps, many commented more on their stark brows than their gowns. Jenner had bleached brows at the 2022 Met Gala and Williams at the Met Gala in both 2021 and 2022.

Bleached eyebrows are so hot this summer that people have been trying it themselves. All over TikTok, videos are going viral of at-home brow bleach jobs. If you’ve been tempted by the trend, with a spoolie, try brushing a light amount of concealer through your brows to test the look before picking up the hair dye or bleach.
