Learning From 2021

In less than a day, 2021 will be over. I don’t know about you, but this year went by so fast. I can hardly believe we’re about to start the next one. A lot happened this year, both good and bad, and I am definitely ready for a fresh start. I know next year won’t magically make things different or solve all our problems, but it’s a chance to do better.

The biggest thing I learned this year is to prioritize myself and my well-being. I’ve always tried to help others and take on as many responsibilities as possible to make things easier for others. This year was no different, even with so much uncertainty and fear in the world. But this time, something in me finally had enough. Toward the end of the year, my mental health had declined to the point that I could no longer ignore it, and I was miserable. So that is what I am going to change next year.

I’ll still help others as much as possible, but I need to say “no” more often. This year has been rough for me, and I can’t go through that again. That means listening to myself when my body is telling me it’s had enough and taking steps to get back on track so I can better serve myself and others.

I won’t let 2022 do what 2021 did to me. It’s time to make a change so I can be happy, and I am really looking forward to it. If you’re like me, I hope you take some time for yourself too.
