Jenn Im: A Woman in Fashion & Beauty Who Inspires Me

March is officially Women’s History Month. It’s the perfect time to highlight women’s contributions to society, politics, education, work, health, and fashion!

In honor of Women’s History Month, I wanted to highlight one of my favorite icons of all time—YouTube sensation, fashion designer, and entrepreneur, Jenn Im!

Jenn Im is best known for her fashion, beauty, and lifestyle YouTube channel, which began in 2010. Through her insightful content, creative edits, and her authenticity, Jenn was able to build a supportive community on YouTube. In addition, her efforts have also helped to shape the vlogging and YouTube landscape that we know today.

Aside from the impressive work that she has done on YouTube, Jenn launched her own clothing line, Eggie, in August 2017, which sold out within minutes of its online release. The brand offers a wide variety of pieces, including gender-neutral clothing items. Most importantly, a lot of the items in the line also incorporate elements of Jenn’s Korean heritage.

Recently, Jenn has also started a virtual book club called Curl Up Club and she uses this platform to prompt meaningful discussions amongst her followers. I love the sense of community that this club represents and it’s perfect for the inner bookworm in me!

I have always been inspired by Jenn’s genuine appreciation for the people who make up her community, as well as the quality work that she puts out into the world. I’ve been a fan of Jenn’s channel since its start, and I always felt connected to the community she created due to our shared background.

Growing up in Los Angeles as a first-generation Asian American, it was always hard to find individuals in pop culture or media that I resonated with. With the rise of YouTube, I was able to connect with so many other people who also came from a similar background or upbringing.

While I originally fell in love with Jenn’s channel for her impeccable taste in fashion and beauty, what ultimately solidified her as a source of inspiration was her ability to tell stories through her videos that made me feel connected and represented. Her dedication to her work is also very inspiring, and I admire her work ethic, diligence, and creativity!
