Health on a Budget

Cooking meals on a college budget is hard, especially when you are just starting to learn new recipes. This problem is especially prevalent while learning how to master grocery shopping, and one of the toughest challenges I face is deciphering which ingredients to purchase that I can use in a variety of ways. Thankfully, I found the Dr. Preager’s Veggie Patties and made them a staple product on my grocery list.

These plant based frozen patties are sold in 14 different styles, ranging from mushroom risotto, black bean quinoa, to gluten-free California veggie burgers. My current personal favorite is the super greens veggie burger, packed with ten different types of veggies and five grams of protein with an incredible flavor.

Not only are these patties incredibly healthy, but also extremely versatile. There are four per box and each box is only $4.99, so each serving only costs approximately $1.25! They cook best on the stove top, and go from frozen to ready in about 5 minutes with no extra prep necessary. Even though these burgers are advertised as a replacement for a hamburger, there is no limit to the array of recipes that they fit into, which is why I value them so highly. I have even found a way to incorporate them into a rice bowl. All you need is rice, any assortment of stove cooked veggies, avocado, and a Dr. Preager’s burger to put on top.

When I get home from school or work and I do not want to spend more than 10 minutes making a satisfying meal; these always do the trick. If you are looking to fuel your healthy habits on a budget I highly recommend adding these to your next grocery list.
