Good Will Goes a Long Way

As a college student, my funds for things like clothes are low. I have a lot of clothes already, so why should I bother buying new ones? I’m sure a lot of us are in that situation. Unfortunately, situations do arise that require new clothes on a limited budget.

Such a thing happened to me when I got a summer job at Nordstrom, working in web fulfillment. I needed dark-colored, sleeved shirts for work and most of my clothes are brightly colored fandom shirts from Hot Topic. I had clothes from my last job at Macy’s, but they were too nice and sleeveless.

My mom took me out shopping for such clothes, and cheap ones, first to Burlington coat factory. That didn’t yield much. With great reluctance, because it was my day off, we went to Goodwill, where we had a lot better success.

Goodwill is a great place to get nice clothing for a very nice price- if you’re willing to hunt through it all. It can be a challenge, and frustrating, to find what you’re looking for, but it can be worth it. In my case, it was a challenge because I was paying attention to fiber content and a lot of the clothes had the tags cut out.

However, I did walk away with four new shirts, all of which are very nice for both my job and just everyday wearing.

It can take patience, but a trip to see what people’s goodwill has made available can be well worth it.
