Valentine’s Day is Cute but Dumb

Valentine’s Day is, unfortunately, not a fun holiday for everyone. I have personally always loved it because I love making Valentine’s for my friends and family; however, I totally understand why others loathe it. The expectations of the holiday are ridiculous to say the least. I’m in a relationship, but even my boyfriend and I don’t get why people make a big deal out of it. So, how can we make Valentine’s Day fun for everyone?

First of all, I believe that Valentine’s Day isn’t just for celebrating significant others—it should be used to celebrate all of your loved ones. On this upcoming Valentine’s Day, try to make someone in your life feel special, whether it’s a friend or family member, by getting them a card or just a small sweet. I’m sure you’ll feel lots of love just from that simple act.

Secondly, you can make Valentine’s Day a self-love day. Maybe you’re rolling your eyes at me, but you have to love yourself before you can truly love anyone else. Valentine’s Day actually falls on a Sunday, so take a self-care day! Go on a walk! By some chocolate! Do something that makes you happy!

And lastly, if you’re a nihilist like me, just remind yourself that Valentine’s Day is a dumb capitalist holiday. Yes, I love it, but even I can admit that it’s dumb. People are tricked into buying all the stuff that will rot their teeth and the cards that will be thrown out within the following weeks. So, if thinking about all that makes you feel better, awesome.

Whether you hate the holiday or not, I hope you still enjoy it!
