5 Doughy Desserts

Life is all about the dough–and so is dessert. Every culture has its own take on sweet bread, from churros to doughnuts to croissants. If you’re craving something satisfying without it being too sweet, check out this list of doughy desserts.

1. Cruffins

A blend of French and American culinary genius, cruffins are deliciously sweet creations. These desserts have the crispiness of a croissant and fluffiness of a muffin with just the right amount of sweetness! Mr. Holmes Bakehouse is especially known for their signature cruffins.

2. Churros

Churros, in one word, are heaven. In five words, they’re crispy fried cinnamon dough sticks–even better if you pair them with chocolate for dipping. You can find these desserts almost anywhere, from ballgames to Costco to street sides, but I suggest visiting The Loop, where you can even build your own churro!

3. Red Bean Bread

This Asian sweet works great as a tasty snack and a dessert. The idea of beans in your dessert may turn you off at first, but the bean filling actually blends perfectly with the doughy outside to create a sweet, sweet, creation. If you can appreciate both sweet and savory tastes (at the same time), look for an 85° Cafe or asian bakery near you!

4. Fruit Tarts

This french concoction is a delectable treat typically made with egg custard. It’s also refreshing and incredible simple to make. Add some greek yogurt and gluten-free crust to make this a healthy snack as well!

5. Doughnuts

Last but not least, of course, is the doughnut! When it comes to finding the right doughnut, do your research; a lot of brand-name doughnuts can be deceiving and hyped up. Some of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had were at mom-and-pop donut shops at a hole in the wall!
