How much do you know about the most well-known moments in pop culture? You might know much less than you think. The podcast You’re Wrong About, hosted by journalists Michael Hobbes and Sarah Marshall, reveals how various historical events have been misconstrued by media and word-of-mouth. You’re Wrong About concentrates primarily on events from the ’80s and ’90s, a time when entertainment media was at its peak and the truth would get twisted in exchange for revenue. The episode on the Columbine mass shooting discloses the number of mistruths surrounding the perpetrators and victims. Columbine pushed discourse surrounding bullying and mental health, and still today there is contrasting public opinion on what caused this tragedy. The episode also discusses the widely popularized version of that day’s events that catapulted a victim into martyrdom in the Evangelical community. Other great episodes on the podcast include “The Obesity Epidemic” and the “OJ Simpson Trial“. The hosts are brilliant; their expertise as writers and journalists is undeniable. The concept of this podcast is so compelling, I wish I would’ve thought of it first. If you’re pop culture obsessed, then this one’s for you.
