Why I Love YouTube

I had never been an active YouTube user, but in the past year, I have come to realize how useful YouTube is. Recently, I have been using YouTube for many things, like:

Baking – Find a step-by-step video on how to bake your favorite desserts! I just type the dessert I want to bake and find a Youtuber that gives specific instructions. I deliberately find videos that are geared towards beginner bakers. This way, the recipe is easier to replicate, and the ingredients are primarily household items I already have. For an added bonus, if you don’t know what you want to bake, but are in the mood for baking, you can find ideas by scrolling through the pages until you find one that you want to try!

Learning – When you’re frustrated and stuck on a question, go on YouTube! YouTube has a lot of videos on how to solve problems, so you can learn by just watching a video. Especially this semester, it’s come in handy: Chemistry, Calculus, Graphing. There are teaching videos for every subject. My favorite so far is Khan Academy because their explanations are easy to follow and detailed with pictures. Instead of hiring a personal tutor, I’ve been using the free tutors on YouTube, and it’s worked very well so far! You can also learn things that you’ve always wanted to learn without taking an actual class.

Beauty – Recently, I have been interested in beauty products, especially skin products, so I’ve been using YouTube to get some more insight into the products that I’m interested in. There are lots of people who upload videos of themselves reviewing beauty products, giving their honest and open opinions. I like to watch these videos to decide which products are better than others and which ones I’m going to invest my money in. Unlike advertisements, the Youtubers give both the pros and cons, and I’m able to use that information to make a decision for myself. When it comes to beauty products, it’s a big investment, so I like to investigate.
