What to Do During the Quarantine

Introverts—ignore this article, you have been training for this moment your entire lives. Extroverts—you may be feeling like this “social distancing” and self-quarantining may kill you. I get it. It can be hard to stay sane and functioning when you are not supposed to leave your house or see anyone that does not live with you. We will come out of this situation stronger than before, but until it is over, here are some suggestions to keep you busy:

  1. Clean. I know we all hate it, but this is the perfect time to do so. If you are going to be stuck in your house for a few months, why not declutter and get rid of unnecessary junk? It has to happen anyway, and doing it now will just make this time easier to bear.
  2. Chat with friends and family. Even if you cannot see them in person, check in every once in a while. Make sure everyone has food, water, and someone to talk to. Video chat with each other, have virtual parties, play online games, take advantage of the Chrome extension Netflix Party to have movie nights with your friends. This is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with someone you have not spoken to in a long time.
  3. Binge watch. Do not rely on it too heavily, but there really is only so much you can do before falling back to watching TV. You should not feel guilty about that either, because this is a time to take care of yourself and do what you need to do to be happy. That includes taking some time to watch an interesting new show or revisit an old favorite. Take advantage of the plethora of streaming services out there and find something that captivates you and makes you forget about our troubling world, at least for a little while.

Whatever you decide to do, vary your habits. If you only do the same thing over and over, you will get bored even quicker. Try a hundred different things until you find your balance between productivity and enjoyment, and just know that this will eventually end.
