Wanderlust: a strong desire to wander, travel, or explore new places.

To say that the pandemic has changed a lot of travel plans over the past couple of years is an understatement. If you’re like me, you may have hoped to study abroad but had your dreams dashed by unprecedented times. Even now, there may be limited options to use your education for exploring the world. I used to think that once I graduated, the chance to be a global student was over.

Thankfully, it’s not!

There are a few ways to delve into new cultures and countries as an adult and even during the summers as a college or high school student. Let’s take a look:

  • Teach English abroad: There is training involved, but if you are confident in your fluency and want to share the language with others, check out International TEFL Academy. The demand for teachers is always high as is the amount of people seeking lessons, so there are plenty of places that need you and your daring attitude. They have plenty of information on their website about what it takes to be qualified!
  • Find a program outside your school: Education First first offers chances for educators, students, and graduates to lean into their wanderlust. The programs range from 1-2 weeks to a full year, so there truly is something for everybody. Learn languages, have an exciting spring break, or take a gap year through this company’s extensive options.
  • Get a job abroad: Whether through remote work or a job overseas, you can still appeal to your sense of adventure after you toss your cap. Here is a resource to help with taking the steps to search for a job, acquire a work visa, and travel to where you are meant to be.

Don’t stop dreaming! Engage with the resource above, research the opportunities that interest you, and let your wanderlust grow. The world awaits!
