Video Editing

One of my biggest hobbies is making video edits. When I was in third grade, my parents got me a small video camera, and I took it with me everywhere. I loved filming random moments with my friends, then going back and rewatching my favorite memories. As I got older, I got more into editing the videos. I would put them together into little montages and give them to my friends and family for their birthdays. It is a fun and meaningful way to show them that I appreciate them and cherish all our memories together.

I originally started using iMovie to edit my videos, and although iMovie is wonderful for making simple edits, I started wanting to make more advanced edits. At this time, I also got into watching edits that people post on Instagram. Every time I finished watching a TV show or movie, I went on Instagram and searched up video edits for it. Through watching edits and understanding how editors used transitions and coloring to make their edits more elaborate, I learned a few tips on how to improve mine. The first thing I did was save up my money to purchase Adobe After Effects. It took me weeks of watching YouTube videos to learn After Effects, but once I learned the basics, it got much easier. After Effects allowed me to personalize and create more advanced titles, coloring, and transitions.

Before college started, I purchased the DJI Osmo Pocket 2. This video camera is small enough to fit in my purse, but it takes high-quality videos and pictures. I take my camera with me everywhere and film moments with my friends and family. Once I have enough videos, I make edits of the videos on After Effects and give these edits to my friends. It is so much fun to look back on previous edits and not only to see how much my editing skills have improved, but to also see my favorite memories.
