Thinking About Getting a Pet?

Pets, as most of us know, are awesome companions that can show unconditional love or even just keep us company. However, if you are thinking about getting one, you might want to consider how well you can take care of it. Here are some things to consider before getting a pet:

Money

How much will it cost to vaccinate, spay/neuter, house, bathe, bring to the vet for check-ups, feed, etc.? These are all things you should think about while budgeting for a pet. If your budget can’t handle a larger animal, maybe consider getting a smaller one like a fish or hamster.

Place and Time

How big is your living space and how much time do you have to take care of a pet? Do you live in a small apartment or have a super busy schedule? Think about how much time, space and attention the animal you want needs. For example, if you’re planning on getting a dog, you should have time to walk it at least once a day and let it out to go to the bathroom, and time to play with them as well. Your living space also shouldn’t be too cramped for them unless they’re small.

Ethics

Where are you getting your pet from? Consider adopting one from an animal shelter if possible. Store bought, bred, or “exotic” animals are not the most ethical choices; a lot of the time the animals are abused through breeding and selling in stores. Exotic animals are bred too, or captured from the wild, which means they were displaced and their parents were most likely killed.

I hope these tips helped put your pet choice into perspective!
