The Sanatorium Book Review

I recently finished the mystery/thriller book The Sanatorium, written by Sarah Pearse. This classic murder mystery takes place in the Swiss Alps, half-hidden by forest and snow-covered mountains. There used to be an abandoned sanatorium but now it’s a newly renovated five-star hotel that has a sinister vibe that is threatening to take the hotel down.

When the main character, Elian Warner, and her boyfriend Will go to the hotel for her brother’s engagement party, things start to go downhill. When two women go missing, Elin must put her detective skills to the test if she wants to figure out what’s really going on in this creepy place.

The setting and synopsis immediately hooked me and overall, I really enjoyed the book. It’s fast-paced and the mystery kept me wanting more. The twists and turns were surprising and the end left me intrigued. I also liked the characters and the relationships that develop between them.

If you’re looking for a thriller, pick this up! It makes for a great book to discuss with friends and it’s a part of Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club.
