The Great British Baking Show: A Way to De-Stress

The pandemic has ambushed us with loads of different stressors, one of which is remote learning. Constant Zoom lectures can be taxing on our body and mind, so we must take a break from studying before jumping back into the mess of it all. My favorite go-to show for “de-stressing” is “The Great British Baking Show.”

This show has been on for years now, as it is an incredibly relaxing yet engaging show to watch. Its premise is simple–a dozen or so bakers from the U.K take part in an intense competition that tests their baking skills, whether it be cakes, bread, pastries, or desserts. The show is accompanied by judges Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, and Prue Leith.

“The Great British Baking Show” draws the audience in as the contestants are tasked with the challenge of creating delicious, accurate, and visually appealing dishes week after week. I love seeing the bakers go to their limit to create fantastic works of art and participate in the humorous banter between them and the hosts.

When you are overwhelmed with school work or have a lot on your mind, watching a show like this briefly takes your attention away from your next assignment and shifts it to the show’s entertaining competition. It may even inspire you to start baking in your free time!

After watching “The Great British Baking Show,” you will find yourself rooting for your favorite bakers and learning about complicated European dishes that you haven’t heard of before. You can check this show out on Netflix!
