The Best Comfort Books

As summer draws to a close, I would like to mention some of my favorite summer reads. I’m always up for romantic contemporary novels and love when they are set in the middle of summer, in a small town where the characters spend long days having fun at the beach. These types of books have always acted as a comfort blanket, so I hope the following recommendations sound as good to you as they do to me. Here are some of my favorite comfort books:

1. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

When summer rolls around, Emily and her best friend Sloane are supposed to have the best time ever, but something weird happens. Sloane disappears and leaves Emily with thirteen tasks that she would never have the guts to do: apple picking at night, dancing until dawn, kissing a stranger. But maybe finishing the list will get Emily her friend back?

2. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

Auden West isn’t sure how to spend her summer before college until she decides to go to Colby, the beach town where her dad lives. At first, she thinks it’ll be fun, but when she notices that all her dad is going to do is work on his novel, Auden realizes that she’s completely alone–that is, until she meets Eli. As they bond over being insomniacs, Eli decides to become her nocturnal tour guide. With so many long nights ahead of them, they both know that anything can happen.

3. Beach Blondes by Katherine Applegate

Summer Smith, being from Minnesota, is more than ready to run away to the hot Florida Keys and spend some time at the beach. But by the end of the first day, Summer realizes that she didn’t come as prepared as she thought. With her new friends and the cute boys she has met, she can only hope that her summer will turn out the way she dreamed. This book is a duology with two novellas that are worth the read!
