At a young age, children are like sponges, understanding a lot more than we give them credit for. Given this fact, it is critical for them to be exposed to how others think and look differently than them through racial diversity in children’s books.
I remember my mom telling me to make friends with everyone even if they look different from me the day before my first day of kindergarten. I think that all parents should tell their children this and enforce that it is okay if you look different from others around you.
