Staying Motivated

There are always things in our lives that we either do not want to do or are not in the right mood to do, but we always have to motivate ourselves to get them done. It can be hard to do that, but getting things off your plate will ultimately make you feel better in the long run. Here are a few ways to help you stay motivated:

  1. Set rewards for yourself. If you are doing homework, allow yourself a piece of candy or some other treat each time you finish a problem or read a chapter. Tell yourself you are not allowed to watch TV or do some other fun activity until you get it done, and that way you will be more inclined to do so.
  2. Think about your reasons. If you are working out or trying to eat healthy, think about the reason you decided to do that in the first place. Was it to feel healthier? To feel more comfortable in your body? To get stronger? Or if you are doing homework, what do you ultimately want to learn from the class and how can your homework help?
  3. Think about the payoff. Writing that resume or cover letter and going through countless interviews may sound exhausting and taxing, but what if you really do your best and get the job? What if you finally clean your house and you realize that you actually do have space? What if you can find things and get more work done with less clutter?

There are many different ways to motivate yourself. Ultimately, you have to remember why you are looking for motivation in the first place. What is it that you want to accomplish, and how can you make yourself do it? Different things work for different people, and you just have to keep trying until you find yours.
