Staying Focused and Motivated

The biggest way that I motivate myself is through setting small, easily attainable goals that lead to a larger goal. For instance, if my goal is to get a good grade in a certain class, I would split that into smaller goals, such as getting a certain grade on each midterm. In order to get a good grade on my midterms, I would make daily goals to study for that class for at least an hour a day. This is easy to do and makes me feel as if I am making progress towards my larger goal. I also love writing these smaller goals down and crossing them off the list each day that I study for an hour.

Another way I motivate myself is through friends. Studying with friends in a quiet place is the best way I stay focused. My friends and I usually go to a library where we can’t get distracted and set a timer for 1-2 hours to stay focused and do our work. Being surrounded by other people studying helps me stay focused and motivated to study. Additionally, surrounding myself with motivated people inspires me to do the same.

As for personal goals outside of school and work, I love to record myself to see my progress. For instance, I am constantly making goals for when I work out. Every time I work out, I record myself. I then compile all the videos together and add inspirational music. Seeing my progress in a montage format with music inspires me to continue and shows me how hard work can pay off.

Many times, when I wake up in the morning, I don’t feel like doing anything except for lying in bed all day on my phone. On days like these, I start my day by blasting music. I love blasting throwback pop songs from the early 2000s. Jamming out to music first thing in the morning helps motivate me to have a productive day.

Setting small, attainable goals, working with friends, recording my progress, and listening to music are all ways I stay motivated. I hope these tips help you stay motivated and focused on your goals as well!
