Simple Habits for Healthy Eating

With health being so important in all aspects of our lives, it’s important to practice clean and healthy eating habits. Below is a list of ways that have helped me stay consistent and excited to eat better.

  1. One of the most important steps is not to go to the grocery store hungry. Even if you make a grocery list (another important step), you are more likely to succumb to cravings and add unhealthy and unnecessary snacks to your cart.
  2. Pay attention to your daily serving of fruits and vegetables. This will always be a better snack than a bag of chips. Filling your home with plenty of fresh fruit and veggies will essentially force you to consume that apple during the day or as a late-night snack. It will also help build that routine, and you will slowly start to crave healthier snacks in the future.
  3. Buying pre-packaged snacks. Whether you’re buying trail mix, cereal, or yogurt, buying pre-packaged bundles is better because you’ll have an exact portion size already measured for you. This prevents overeating if you decide to eat from a large container.
  4. Drink water over any other drink. This is one of the best and simplest options. It’s often said that we shouldn’t drink our calories, but this goes beyond just calories. Many beverages contain a lot of sugar, and even 0 calorie drinks contain other ingredients that harm our bodies. To ensure we stay hydrated, water is our best option and will help prevent our sugar cravings.

There are so many ways to help us eat healthy in our day-to-day lives. Some honorary mentions are preparing our own meals at home, eating a nutritious breakfast every day, eating smaller portions, and pacing our meals (staying consistent).
