Season Two Review: American Vandal

The Netflix original, American Vandal, is a mockumentary that follows Peter Maldonado and Sam Ecklund, two teenage filmmakers who seek to unveil hidden truths that lie within school based scandals.

While abhorrent, the second season is actually wildly entertaining. Venturing to Washington, the show studies the private school wherein several poop related crimes have occured. The ‘Turd Burglar,’ as the assailant has been monickered, is presumed to be student Kevin McClain, who has admitted to the crimes. As the season progresses McClain is assumed to be innocent, though his story still has holes, leaving Peter and Sam with several unanswered questions. With new revelations and twists and turns, audience members may find it difficult to truly pinpoint the Turd Burglar until the very end.

If one were unaware of the series’ nature, it’d be difficult to discern whether it was fact or fiction. While incorporating facets of a regular documentary and subtly poking fun at them, American Vandal fits the bill for a binge-worthy show. The show gives fans exactly what they need. An enthralling show that makes one feel as though they are written into the storyline while leaving them at ease with light-hearted themes.
