Over the past few months, I have been reevaluating what self-care and wellness mean to me. They look a little different than they used to, as I’ve noticed that everybody has their own methods, and those can change over time. Here are a few ways that I, and guest writer Nate, like to enrich our lives and stay on top of matters of wellness.

  1. The first form of self-care I have practiced over the past few months is cardio. I wasn’t always a fan of this form of exercise, but I developed a passion for it at a new gym that I have fallen in love with, Orangetheory Fitness. What once felt daunting to me is now one of my favorite parts of the day. Not only do I feel good while doing it, but I feel amazing afterwards because I know I am taking care of my heart and my health.
  2. A crucial piece of the self-care puzzle for me and many others is spending time with friends and family. No matter what trials I am facing in my life or moments I am celebrating, I always feel better when I am able to spend time with those closest to me.
  3. This last week, I have learned an important life lesson in regards to my passions. This is the most valuable wellness tip I can offer you: do the thing you love. It’s easy to find things in your way or even get in your own way, but once you follow your passions, I promise you will feel better. Starting is the hardest part, and the process is not always easy, but the journey is well worth it.
  4. One of my favorite methods of self-care is listening to music. I find that music can lift my spirits, dampen my sorrows, and help me to simply relax at the end of the day. Whether it be going for a drive with my favorite playlist or watching my favorite vinyl spin, music always helps me through even the toughest of times.
  5. I never go a day without meditating, as it helps me to truly care for my mind and body, recentering my focus towards the pieces of myself that need a little extra love on any given day. By growing comfortable in a state of being truly present, one can change their mindset towards the current moment, and wholly care for themselves.
