Review: The Summer I Turned Pretty

Having exactly what every reader longs for in a summer read, Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty is about growing up, moving on, and falling in love.

The novel follows 15-year-old Belly as she enters another summer with the boys at Cousins Beach. While there, Belly’s childhood crush on her brother’s friend, Conrad, re-ignites; however, her friendship with Conrad’s brother, Jeremiah, also begins to become more than a friendship.

While the writing feels a bit immature for older readers, the story still resonates for any girl who has ever believed that they were in love with a crush. A relatable coming-of-age novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty will have readers both in tears and in stitches of laughter with every turn of the page.
