For those of us who love a good 1980’s throwback, there’s only so many times we can watch movies like Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, which is why The Carrie Diaries is the perfect cure to your nostalgia.

Despite being filmed in the 2000’s, this Sex and the City prequel takes place in 1984 suburban Connecticut, where a young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) lives with her family, friends, and burning desire to experience the cultural and social wonderland only a train ride away: New York City. Carrie navigates relationships and more as she balances her home life in the suburbs with her emerging professional one in the big apple.

If you’re looking for a feel good, witty romantic comedy, The Carrie Diaries is up and streaming on Netflix for your teenage daughter and/or you to watch. The show explores relationships, family dynamics, and the darker corners of New York City while maintaining a lighthearted and lively tone. The tone is also highlighted by colorful fashions, beautiful cinematography, and a ridiculously good looking main cast.

So press that play button–Carrie’s big brown eyes and charming double-life story will make sure you don’t press pause.
