Review: Root Letter

For players interested in more plot-oriented games, Kadokawa Corporation’s Root Letter should be on the top of their lists.

Root Letter is a visual novel that centers around a man trying to solve the mystery behind the disappearance of his former pen pal, Fumino Aya. Players must point and click for clues as well as interrogate suspects to discover the truth behind her disappearance 15 years ago. Root Letter also contains multiple endings that depend on the players decisions throughout the game.

While Root Letter has an interesting premise, it does not have the traditional sense of gameplay that other genres have. The majority of the game is dedicated more towards reading dialogue then the interrogation mini games. Despite the lack of gameplay, players can enjoy interacting with a colorful cast of characters as they uncover Aya’s mystery.
