Redecorating for the Soul

Oftentimes I find myself feeling cramped. Life becomes overwhelming, and as a result I feel extremely unorganized. Because I am a neat freak, knowing that I don’t have my life together at any given time nibbles away at my soul. My first instinct when I begin feeling this way is usually to commit to a drastic change: cut my hair, throw out my entire wardrobe–you name it. Unfortunately, I don’t always have the courage (or the money) to make such decisions, and so this neat freak energy is channeled into something more productive: redecorating and reorganizing my room.

I consider my bedroom a sacred place: a place where I can escape from the day-to-day pressures of life and curl up into my own world, even if just for a couple of minutes. Switching up the feng shui of my room can be extremely reenergizing—just a couple of changes can transform the aesthetic and energy of the room. This doesn’t necessarily mean buying all new furniture; simply rearranging what I have can be a breath of fresh air.

Another way I like to amp up my room décor is by adding small pieces of wall art. I really enjoy going to flea markets and thrift stores to find vintage posters, paintings, and decorations for my bedroom. It’s the easiest way to find authentic and cheap pieces that make my space more homey and pleasant!

Hopefully, the ways in which I choose to re energize my room will help you in your journey to re energize yours, too. Regardless of if you are an ambitious student or simply another working busy bee, it may seem as if money will bar you from making changes to your living space. Rest assured that there are alternatives to blowing your savings at an IKEA. There’s no point in spending so much money on furniture and decorations when such things can easily be thrifted.

It’s too easy to feel overwhelmed these days, so don’t be afraid to take time for yourself to decorate and arrange your room. Your other work can wait; (mine certainly has!)
