Products for Cracked Skin

The winter weather brings raining sideways, strong winds, chapped lips, and cracked skin, with sensitive skin taking an additional hit. Everyone’s body takes a toll. I am prone to extreme dryness during this time of the year and I have found a few saving grace products (all under $10!) that help my body protect itself in harsh conditions.

The first, and my favorite, is Carmex. One of my biggest insecurities is chapped lips. I feel like that’s all someone looks at when you’re having a conversation (granted our masks can hide that factor now, but pre-pandemic, it was something that was constantly on my mind). Carmex is made from various waxes (beeswax, paraffin wax) and petroleum jelly (plus more, but these are the main ingredients that I feel helps my lips retain moisture). I’m not a fan of the “Original” flavor, since it just tastes like Vaseline. Fortunately, the lip balm comes in different flavors and my favorite is cherry. Because of the active ingredients, I can put a little on in the morning and have protected lips for the majority of the day – and it lasts forever! This product is around $2-3 depending on the store.

Another product that I can’t live without is sunscreen. In my morning skincare routine, I use a lotion that has sunscreen in it so I can knock out two steps in one. This product by Differin is made for acne-prone skin, which is another insecurity of mine. A huge mission for me was finding something that didn’t clog my pores. I tried many products that were too moisturizing so my skin broke out, or not moisturizing enough and gave me windburn on my cheeks. This lotion has 30 SPF and is oil-absorbing, so the product doesn’t feel greasy on your skin, and it doesn’t cause unwanted patches. This product is around $8 on Amazon.

My last product recommendation is eye drops. My eyes get extremely dry, especially when it’s windy outside, and red from allergies. I love to use Bausch and Lomb eye drops (and practically all of their products as well). This company produces a product that is safe for contacts as well. These are super helpful year-round, but I find myself using more of the product during the holidays. This is around $9 on Amazon.
