Pet Plants

I am a pet person at heart. When I leave for college, I miss my dogs so much, especially during this pandemic since I can’t take them with me. Despite this tragedy, another kind of pet has been getting me through the pandemic: my pet plant. I know calling my plant a pet sounds a little odd, but you have to take care of it and give it attention like any other pet animal.

Even though plants don’t necessarily show unconditional love when you get home or cuddle with you, they are still fun to have around. Taking care of my plants makes me feel like I am doing something productive, and they bring life to my room and other home surroundings. Also, they’re just so cute to me and always bring a smile to my face; you can give them names and make a funny bond with them (even though they can’t interact with you per se).

Lastly, in a way, plants help me take care of myself. I can’t really explain it, but taking care of something else just makes me feel better. Maybe it’s because I have to open the window to let the sun in, or maybe it’s because I’m keeping something alive besides myself. For me, it’s gratifying to keep my little plants happy and healthy.
