My Honest Thoughts on “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Bohemian Rhapsody is by far the best movie I have seen in a while. I highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of if you know Freddie Mercury, Queen, and everything that comes with their music.

Since I was a little girl, my mom always played Queen songs for us in the car. We would sing to all the lyrics and tap our feet to the rhythm. The brilliant and dearly missed Freddie Mercury was played by Rami Malek. Rami is truly an incredible actor; after all, he did win the award for “Best Actor” for his role in this film. It is a work of art that is captivating for those who love music and film.

This movie opened my eyes to what talent honestly looks like. Rami spent months watching and observing video footage from Queen’s 1985 Live Aid performance. He actually nailed every step made by Freddie. In fact, there is a video that shows the side-by-side comparison of Freddie and Rami.

Not only does this movie recognize Freddie Mercury’s life and achievements, it also brings awareness to AIDS, the debilitating disease that took over Freddie’s body. This film portrays the emotional exhaustion that Freddie faced in the last remaining years of his life. Although it doesn’t show the crippling affects of the disease in the movie, the characters talk about it. The audience is brought to a scene where Freddie, or Rami, is telling the band about his health. Through this trust and bravery of telling his best friends just how sick he is, we can see the pain. The emphatic notion of feeling ones pain can stem from feeling that connection to such close people in one’s life.

I recommend this movie for all movie goers above 15 years old due to some rather graphic scenes of substance abuse.

Altogether, this film is crafted beautifully. It was definitely my favorite movie within the last year and will continue to be one of my favorites. Now, make some popcorn, grab a snuggy blanket, put your phone away, and watch Bohemian Rhapsody! You will not regret it.
