Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays because of the exciting spirit surrounding it. You can’t help but be delighted when you think about the costumes, parties, candy, and decorations! Unfortunately, this year Halloween will have to be celebrated more subtly at home. However, that does not mean you have to have any less fun. Here are some must-watch Halloween themed films that will be perfect for celebrating the holiday!
When I think of a family-friendly Halloween classic, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown comes to mind. Go along with the Peanuts characters as they follow Linus’s deep belief in the Great Pumpkin! This piece also includes memorable Halloween songs such as “Breathless”, “Graveyard Theme”, “Trick Or Treat”, “The Red Baron”, and “Fanfare”.
Horror films are even more thrilling to watch on Halloween. One of my all-time favorite horror films is Get Out. This Oscar-winning film tells the story of an African-American man who discovers a terrifying truth when he visits the home of his White girlfriend, Rose Armitage. This film will definitely creep you out, but also keep you on your toes. I also recommend watching Us, another horror film also created by Jordan Peele. It tells the insane story of a family’s encounter with their deranged doppelgangers.
Halloweentown is another classic movie following a young witch’s journey navigating through “Halloweentown” as she and her family get involved in a fight against an evil force threatening the world. Casper, Twitches, and Hocus Pocus are three cult-favorite films that also deserve a watch!
Lastly, I am a massive fan of the Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s definitely a mix of both Halloween and Christmas, but it focuses mainly on Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king. The soundtrack of this movie is absolutely stellar and features some fantastic hits like “What’s This?”, “Oogie Boogie’s Song” and “Kidnap the Sandy Claws.”
