Marvel and Sony’s Sticky Situation

Most people have probably heard about Disney and Sony failing to strike a deal regarding Spiderman’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). I’ve seen different opinions, a lot of them siding with Disney, so as a massive fan of the MCU, while being very displeased with Disney as a company, I’m giving a summary of my thoughts.

It boils down to the fact that I side with Sony, and I think Sony should be supported in this decision.

Disney has been buying up everything in the entertainment industry, and are out for more money all the time, because clearly 12.6 billion dollars made in 2018 isn’t enough and the company needs to make more money from properties it don’t even own.

Sony has said no to Disney’s desire to monopolize the entertainment industry, and I think that’s to be applauded and respected, especially when the rights to Spiderman are 100% Sony’s. Disney strike deals favorable to Sony as keeping Spiderman in the MCU is in its best interest but since it seems Disney has developed an all or nothing attitude.

Perhaps Sony will also be able to devote more time and focus to the Spiderverse franchise, which should rightfully be a rival for Disney’s superhero works.

Peter Parker’s absence from the MCU will be tragic and it’ll be sad to see him go. I hope that maybe we can still get Spiderman movies with Tom Holland from Sony.
