Managing School + Health

Let me clarify one thing. Health is not dieting. Health is not losing weight.

Health is feeling good in your body, having a positive relationship with your mind and body, and taking care of yourself. This can be hard to do. It’s hard to be healthy while managing school and all the rollercoasters of life. Here are some tips for you:

Unplug – Take a break from all electronics. Take a break from social media. Go outside and have real human-to-human interactions or go on a solo walk. Be present and take in the world around you.

Take a self-care time or day – Dedicate a chunk of time or a full day to self-care. This means doing something relaxing that you enjoy. For me, that means getting my nails done, putting on a face mask, or going on a walk by the beach. Whatever brings you comfort and peace, do it! You deserve a break and a pampering!

Eat & Hydrate – Make sure you’re fueling your body throughout the day. Don’t skip meals, as this will cause energy levels to plummet, leaving you sluggish and tired. Make sure you’re drinking water frequently. Keep a reusable water bottle at your disposal! I always have a snack in my backpack, such as a protein bar.

Move your body – During school days, I find myself sitting for the majority of my day—in class, doing homework, studying, etc. But, I always find time to move my body. Sometimes, I go on a walk around campus. If I have more time, I’ll go to the gym and do a few workouts. The small things matter, so even just a 10-minute walk can be greatly beneficial!

Don’t forget that health is mental, emotional, and physical. You can work at your best when you’re well-rested and energetic!
